nixtress's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ob la di ob la da life goes on ....

In the midst of all the chaos this weekend, I realized several things:

1) the baby birds have gone from the nest in my soffet.

2) without the tree in the front yard, incredible amounts of light flood my kitchen.

3) Freya is a bossy little pig and attention hog.

4) I need a new job.

5)women who intentionally speak like the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz on a regular basis should be shot.

Elaboration:

I found one of the baby birds dead in the yard. Hopefully the others made their way. My kitchen is long and narrow and has only two small windows to provide natural light. Therefore, with no tree, more light is brightening that room. Freya literally shouldered her way in front of Wraith at the food dish yesterday. Little piglet! And last night when Wraith attempted a bedroom venture, Freya chased her out. Tongue lashings ensued. My work hours lately seem to be rotating around weekends and major holidays. The specific problem is that when I first began working for this particular law enforcement agency, working every weekend was not part of the equation. In the summer months it's not as much an inconvenience as the boys are out of school and any camping, etc we do can be done mid-week. However, with school in and the weekend being my main chunk of time available to spend with them, it's a major block. Tentative plans at this point are to make it through the summer, and find a "normal" first shift position Monday through Friday this Fall. I may continue to be an "on-call" gal, but that's debatable. Number 5 up there was pretty self-explanatory.

Yesterday, being Memorial Day, was hopping. We had our tiny little parade, wherein a team of horses pulling a sweet little white carriage got spooked and attacked one of the cruisers (specifically the DARE cruiser), causing substantial damage. Traffic stops/citations too numerous to count, several bonds, one of them close to $1,000.00 just for being in possession of rolling papers. Ick. Typical amounts of domestics-- husbands drunk and beating wives, brother drunkenly bashing brother, mothers and daughters disagreeing...typical. One woman decided this weekend would be a good time to sleep with her ex in her current lover's bed, got caught by current lover and he beat the living hell out of her. Several broken ribs, bruises galore and she decided yesterday to recant her statement because it was "all a big misunderstanding."

*insert a huge sigh now*

We also had bodies. At this point it appears to be a murder-suicide. Man and wife, bodies found in their home, dead by way of shotgun. Strangely enough, this happens about once every 6 or 7 years here. For small town life, that seems sort of ...frequent.

On more pleasant fronts, the weather held up, the boys don't have school today either and we're going to the state park this afternoon. I think.

Off to watch Scooby Doo with my cuddly sons.
