nixtress's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

tiddlybits of the last two days.

Otay, where was I?

The trip to the zoo was made spontaneously, as it was raining and no one wanted to spend another day cooped up in the house.

It stopped raining on the way up and was actually a terrific day to be there, overcast and not super hot. There weren't as many people as normal either so we didn't have to dodge the crowds. We were able to take our time and meander through at our own pace, which is always nice.

We saw the typical zoo beasties--elephants and hippos, monkeys and bears and flamingos even. There's a lorikeet house where you can take cups of nectar and go inside where the birds are flying around free, and they'll land anywhere just to be able to stick their tongues in this sweet stuff. I had birds on my head, and birds on my arms and birds on posts near me, all trying to drink out of the cups in my hands. One of the aides in the lorikeet house took pics of me with two birds sitting on top of my head, with their tongues in my ears. That's the weirdest feeling in the world, let me tell you!! Trevor just about jumped out of his shoes when one of them landed on his arm. He's the more cautious of the two boys and it startled him.

There was also a dinosaur exhibit up there, with mechanized life-sized dinosaurs. It was really an interesting exhibit and the boys (being boys) absolutely loved it. We also sat in the dinosaur simulator, which basically had us looking through the eyes of a dinosaur and moving as a dinosaur would (the seats moved and everything). Trev hated it. Ryan loved it and crowed about it for an hour after.

The boys took camel rides and I took a million and one photographs of the time spent there.

We didn't get into the greenhouse (butterflies freely exist in there and settle like a living blanket on you) or the Rainforest but we have a family membership now and I promised the boys that we'd go back after the Harborfest Saturday if we get a chance.

After leaving the zoo, we went over to Jacobs Field and bought tickets for the Yankees/Indians game. It was a neat experience. The size of the stadium and the amount of people was amazing. We were just off of first base and on field level so we had a good view. We enjoyed the typical baseball fare--hotdogs and popcorn and cotton candy. And we experienced the not so typical baseball fare--girls on the big screen kissing. It was a radio promotional thing called Kiss cam where you smooch someone when the camera settles on you. I'm guessing they were enjoying it as well.

Although Cleveland lost, it was well worth everything to have been there.

Work last night was uneventful. Rachel-of-the-funny-dances has put in her two weeks notice so it will be interesting to see what SpinelessStuporvisor does with the schedule.

Bleh. I'm taking the boys to get haircuts now. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
