nixtress's Diaryland Diary

Ry's tooth is extremely loose

Ryan is about to lose his first tooth and, as with Trev's, I'm amazed by how much of a thrill it's becoming for him. The Tooth Fairy in our home doesn't drop off money--she drops off gifts. Tiny little things that can still fit under the pillow, but things that catch and hold the boys with great degrees of glee and happiness.

More importantly to Ry, the loss of his tooth signals a step for him, from little-boyness to big-boyness. This even dwarfs his change from toddler bed to "big kid" bed some years back. Add into this situation the fact that he'll begin school within a few days of losing this tooth, which means he can go to school with this proof of growth.

He's very pumped.

I overheard him telling Trevor something about hoping the Tooth Fairy brings him "miny beans". Miny beans? thought I, and so I ventured online to try to figure this one out. Toys R Us.com only had a listing for Mighty Beanz and after some further eavesdropping and vague questioning, it was ascertained that these miny beans and Mighty Beanz are one and the same. It would seem that the commercial slurs it's lyrics somewhat and therefore that's why Ry calls them that. He gave me the parents' look of death when I asked what a Miny bean was and explained why he calls them that. How dumb I must be to NOT know that. Sheesh.

So at some point this evening, the Tooth Fairy is going to have to mosey off to Wally World or the equivalent to procure these beans.

There's something to be said for perpetuating childhood myths for my children.
