nixtress's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oompa Loompas, boys, kitties and such.

I'm watching one of my all-time favorite movies as I type this. "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Without fail, I end up with the songs stuck in my head, particularly the Oompa Loompa one. And then at the strangest times, it'll pop out again.

The zoo today was fun. It was wonderful to be outside and active and together. The sunshine was brilliant and warm and such a welcome change of pace. This weekend will probably cool down again and be filled with rain but I can handle that. Respite was necessary.

The boys are always able to find new details when we're there. Today it was reading the materials provided and trying to place where the animals were from. And it was also Leap Frog Day (in honor of Leap Year), in which there were special activities in the Rainforest. And the boys got their pictures taken with the frog from WB. Trevor afterwards stated that it was "just a guy in a costume, Mommy" and stuck his hands in his pockets. He's growing into such the young man.

The dr. appt. on Friday went well, with his doctor refusing to just drop Trev on meds. He read the letter sent by Trevor's teacher and took some notes. And the final result is that he wants the school to have someone observe and pay special attention to Trevor's interactions with other children, etc for several days and keep a detailed report of everything, good and bad. He feels that Trev is reacting to some sort of stimuli, be it other children or happenings, etc. And before chucking the kid on meds, he wants to explore what's causing all of this first. He's also recommending a psychologist to help Trevor learn a few coping skills and ways to express himself a little better. He says that Trev's communication has always been a source of frustration for Trevor and this will help him a little.

I so like this doctor. I'm not opposed to giving my sons medication if they truly need it. I just don't want to fall into that pit of medicating just because they can't handle him. And this doc will help us walk that fine line.

They were exhausted tonight, ready for bed. Little legs having walked miles today, the comfort of their beds beckoned earlier than usual. And they dropped right off.

I spent quite some time trying to help the cats find the mouse they'd dropped in the family room. Little pickleheads. It's still MIA but they'll sniff it out. They always do. His days are numbered.

Ah, well. I'm tired too and thinking that falling asleep to Oompa Loompas might cause some really fascinating dreams.

Happy Sunday. Happy new week. Happy new month.
