Second place!! They came in second place!

What a weekend! This was tournament weekend for my sons' baseball team and they played lots and lots and LOTS of ball. First we'll start with some basic tournament rules: seven pitches, three outs per inning, max of five runs per at-bat, and if by the end of the third/beginning of the fourth inning either team is five or more points ahead, they call the game and declare a victory.

Their team played 4 games yesterday and 3 today. Keep in mind this team started out as the Bad News Bears. Literally a straggly and discombobulated group. They've learned so much in the last couple of months, come to play so well together. I was impressed to see good attitudes, high spirits and good will prevail.

They won three out of four yesterday, losing the one game by only one point. Today they won the first two (won in a huge way) and lost the third. Overall?

My boys' team ended up second in the league! It was a great day. They went out there and played their little hearts out and by Game Three were tired and about played out. It was only the first game of the day for the last team they played but my guys still fought hard for their position. I'm just beyond impressed with the coaches attitudes and by the effort these boys put out.

Trevor and Ryan came home glowing. Second place isn't a bad place to be and they have shiny new trophies on our mantle to show for their efforts. They also got participation ribbons and medals for placing in the top three. They're proud of themselves (rightfully) and I'm incredibly proud of their sportsmanship and effort. Just a great day all the way around.

I haven't much of a voice left and am sunburned like mad but happy.

Ry's birthday is Wednesday but we're not celebrating till Saturday. I'm thinking about taking the boys and J. over to this place about half an hour away that has go-karts, lazer tag and batting cages as well as an arcade. Think that might be a fun expedition for a small trio of boys. A nice way to usher in another birthday. I just don't know if J's mom is going to let him go. She's got some anxiety issues as well as some phobias and I don't know how comfortable she'll be having him that far from home. Ryan really wants him to go with, though.

It's quiet here, with only the occasional hiccuping of the frogs in the back field to interrupt the humming of the locusts. There was a sloughed off skin from one of them on one of the lilac bushed today and Ryan thought it was from a beetle. I remember when I was younger finding them everywhere and it seems strange not to see them now. Just one of those changes, maybe, that happens over time. Or maybe just one of the tricks your memory can play. It's cool tonight, slightly breezy. Bed is going to feel so very good this evening. I'm looking forward to shutting down my brain and just letting mental tattoos take me off to sleep.

Happy weekend. Here's hoping yours was filled with much joy, exuberance and some peace as well.
