Bumps and bruises

Watching the boys and my sister trying to rollerskate today was the highlight of my week. None of them has ever skated before and it was incredibly endearing and amusing to witness.
Trevor, for the first half hour, couldn't even get up on his skates. He scooted across the floor either on his butt or on his hands and knees. I'm proud to say that by the time we were done and ready to leave, he'd managed to stay aloft and only took the occasional tumble. He dealt with it all like the trooper he is and I didn't hear a peep out of him. Dimples dug deep, he smiled through every resounding thud of his body hitting that wooden floor.
Ryan. Poor Ryan. He had a heck of a time. That poor kid couldn't stay up for two seconds. I lost count of the times he went down. It was like watching a squirrel trying to climb a greased pole--just wasn't happening. Testament to his stubborn nature, he didn't stop trying, refused my help, even pushed my hands away. His progress was marked in micro-seconds upright, not distance. He finally, towards the end of our time at the roller rink, decided it was more fun and easier just to keep his skates pointed to the front and use his hands to push himself along the wall.
They're both going to be a bucket of bruises by morning.
J came down this evening, after things had settled down a bit and ended up spending the night. I've just finished getting them into bed and calming their whispers and giggles. Trevor fell asleep on the living room floor, sprawled out like a bear rug. Even the household pets are weary tonight, having found all their little niches for napping.
Tonight should be interesting as my old bed is now housed in the garage until spring clean up and in it's place is a queen sized brass bed. The other was comfy, just too bulky and ate up too much space for my smallish bedroom. I'm hoping this one will be comfortable as well. I love the way it fits into the room, love the extra space it's made free.
Tomorrow we're going to AU to see the ice sculptures, tugging along my little sister too. The carvers do an amazing job and some of their details are outstanding. Nice way to work off some energy and spend some time. They haven't got school on Monday due to M.L.K. Day (or as Ry used to call it, Arthur Luther King Day) and I'm off as well. We'll have to see what we can squeeze out of the day.
Off to bed for me now. I'm sleepy.
Sweet dreams, Dlanders. Happy Saturday.
