nixtress's Diaryland Diary

Stuffed to the seams

OH my goodness.
It's been a day filled to the brim with kidlets and activity.
Not only did I have my own children but Ave and my little sister C. as well. And it was Fair Day, the day designated by the school district as allowable for the entire school system to be off in order to go to the county fair.
Do you see where this is going?
Due to the fact that it rained off and on and remained overcast the entire time we were there, no riding of unstable yet exciting-to-kids rides was done. We spent alot of time dodging in and out of barns and other assorted buildings, trying to avoid the rain and still have a decent time. They loved the poultry barn for some reason and as always, the bunnies were a big hit. The merchant buildings were also something they enjoyed, as they cleaned out every free thing imaginable. I now have a surplus of assorted pencils and pens, magnets, yardsticks, bumper stickers....you name it, they snagged at least one.
After they'd eaten tons of fair food (including fries drenched in vinegar, fried cheese on a stick and for me, a gyro) and won odds and ends junk prizes from the game area, we trundled home to look through their loot.
I managed to get lil sister C and Ave home in one piece and with my patience still fairly intact and then it was home to veg before the circus tonight.
I was tired and had one of those just-on-the-edge headaches that a little downtime fixed nicely. The boys ate and decompressed from having company and peace reigned supreme.
The county next door to ours was hosting a smallish circus on their fairgrounds so we packed up and headed over. Surprisingly, it was really good. Most small circus venues don't offer much in terms of real showmanship or skill and I can say I was pleasantly surprised. The show lasted about two hours and the boys had a blast! They munched on cotton candy and peanuts while oohing and ahing over the trapeze artists, elephants and clowns.
In short, they wore their little bodies out today. Tons of walking, lots to see and take in, and way too much junk food. I'll be surprised if one doesn't end up with a tummyache.
It only comes 'round once a year, though. Worth it, I think.
Tomorrow morning we're off to Malabar Farms' Heritage Days. Always a fun experience.
Happy Friday night. Hope your weekend has started out with all things good.
