Conferences and Beggar's Night prep

Conferences went better than I expected. Both boys are doing okay. Ryan, academically, is doing peachy keen. His teacher says that he's doing well "in spite of the suspected ADD". Psht. He's still more interested in digging around in his desk than paying attention to Mr. Dick and would rather draw pictures than study his early morning blackboard work. I've had the necessary Mom talk with him, instructing him to settle his antsy butt down and pay attention. That's as far as it's going.
Trevor is doing well in everything but his reading. And it's not that he's struggling with the reading (his lexile score is 813) but more that he's busy trying to make half the class laugh at him rather than sitting on his caboose and doing his independent reading.
His teacher says if he put as much effort into the actual reading, summarization and classwork as he did into trying to get a laugh, he'd be doing just fine. His work scores are good but his effort scores are bringing the overall grade down. So. We had more Mom Talks and we'll see if they have any real impact.
Can't complain, really. Could be alot worse.
In other news, tomorrow is Beggar's Night. I'll get to spend the joyous hour of it, traipsing around and trying to keep an eye on my little goblins as they dart in and around all the other little goblins, reminding them over and over to remember their manners and be careful, walk on the sidewalk and wait their turns. Eventually, I'll be the carrier of plastic pumpkins, overloaded and heavy with candy of all sorts, waiting for me to sift through and snag my favorites. And it'll end with candy-happy kiddos, snuggled into their beds after warming up (finally!) and settling into dreams of all the sweet stuff the dentist loves to hate.
As each day ticks by, I'm very conscious that life will be back to it's quasi-normal state in just a few more days. I'll be oh-so-thankful for that.
